we had a wonderful 2 nights stay at the Lowen Hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed the city and the hikes

Pros: The breakfast is basic, but satisfactory. The location of the hotel is wonderful as it is almost bang in the city center. The staff was very helpful and nice.

Cons: no parking on the site.

A gem in the heart of Appenzell!

Pros: This hotel is an absolute gem! We had a charming Appenzeller style room, with bed canopy and hand painted features, looking on to the cobblestoned pedestrian street and colourful buildings. Breakfast was excellent- a generous selection of local cheese and meat, freshly.baked breads and eggs. Highly recommend staying 3 nights, as you receive a card with free access to local cable cars and museums.

Cons: A small bar at hotel looks very cosy, but was not open during our stay in May - would've liked a drink in there

Wished I stayed longer.

Pros: A big room! The receptionist spoke great english. Easy to communicate with. A loved the bread bun that I also bought home later from the bakery. I wish could have stayed longer, that is my only regret.

Pros: The rooms were really pretty and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing.

If you are driving there, better to reserve a parking place just behind of the hotel. They have only two parking places

Pros: I like the most are theirs staff, people whom are working there, they are so nice and willing to help, you feel no distance.

Cons: The hotel is in the very center of the city so to arrive at the hotel it’s not easy because many streets is only for walking

A comfortable place to stay in a charming town

Pros: This hotel is located in the old town of Appenzell. It’s a short level stroll from the train station. My bed was very comfortable & the bedroom had traditional paintings & features which added to the charm. I found the staff to be welcoming & helpful. The breakfast was delicious & a great start to the day. I was really, really happy that they were able to provide some extra gluten free products for me as I am a coeliac. I stayed two nights here & thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The property is exactly as described on the website.

Cons: There is nothing to dislike.
