Hotel Untertor by Maier - Self-Check-in

Great value and quality

Pros: Close to the bus stop, local restaurants and grocery store. Clean, well looked after, nice bed and complimentary in-room coffee.

Pros: The hotel is in a lovely spot build into the city port. Check in is easy and the room is clean

Pros: Good location in the city center, close to grocery stores, the highway, and Appenzeller attractions. The possibility to park a car on the nearby street for a good price. Good place to stay for 1-2 nights when traveling or visiting Appenzell.

Cons: It appears that the automated self-check-in system is not functioning optimally for guests who have booked through Booking, and it seems that improvements or clearer instructions are not being implemented.

Pros: Super easy, could come when i wanted. A steal at the price I paid

Pros: We chose the hotel because of the self check-in system and it was very helpful as we booked spontaneously in the evening. The room was overall fine, a bit more worn off than it looks in the pictures but still had anything we needed. The hotel building is impressive, felt special to stay in such an authentic building. Affordable public parking nearby. Price is great for the location.

Cons: It was not very clear how to enter the building and we struggled with the door for a while before ringing the bell. No one answered but the door did open after that.

Pros: Great place, clean, and the price-to-quality ratio is excellent. I would definitely return next time. A pleasant surprise: water and morning coffee with a croissant.

Cons: The only downside was that the check-in and check-out instructions were not provided, and parking near the hotel was paid, but the cost was quite low.

Love to go back

Pros: Location was right in the heart of town. Room was warm and cozy on a very stormy night. Nice to get off the Autobahn and find a little gem. Breakfast as good.

Pros: Hotel is well located, comfortable clean, and very accommodating. They answered all my queries very promptly and accommodated all my requests. I highly recommend this hotel.

Pros: It is great place in the center of town. I stayed a few times here. It is tasty and great breakfast and nice room.

It was great and very comfortable

Pros: The check in procedure was super nice. We arrived quite late, which is absolutely no problem as there is no staff involved in the process. We liked that, because you can do and arrive when you want without troubling anyone or calling or sending emails. Also, if you need anything extra like a stretcher or a towel, it is all for the grabs in one of the storage rooms. Super trustfull, and super nice. We loved it. Same with the breakfast. The quality and variety of products was very nice! You can just do your thing as there was also no personell involved. Everything you needed was there. Overall, a great first experience with this concept, we would definitely like this style of hotel in the future.

Cons: We were on the 3rd floor and it was 35 degrees outside. A fan or Airconditioning would have been nice. Also, the shower is nice, and it was very clean, but a shower curtain really... that could have been done nicer with a glass door or whatever. This is also more hygenic for cleaning, and will last so much longer. Also, the place is very very noisy, and then it is not through the walls, you dont hear people talk, but the floors squeek and creek very loudly when people walk over it. Also you hear this from other rooms and this was very annoying.
